November 26, – Arts Midwest – Tiny Midwest Town is Home to the Oldest Rural LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in New York. This uprising sparked six days of demonstrate in response to discrimination and violence against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) Community. Today, Pride is observed across the country with parties, parades, art shows, talks, and peaceful protests. These events are colorful and often demonstrate rainbows and flags to represent distinct parts of LGBTQIA+ life. The first rainbow flag was made by Gilbert Baker in for San Francisco’s Gay Freedom Celebration. In Baker’s design, each color has a meaning: Pink represents sexuality, red represents life, orange for healing, yellow for the star, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for the soul. While Pride Month is a time of celebration (of love, respect, and community), many people continue to fear being accepted for who they are. It is also a moment to remember those who have suffered or lost their lives due to ignorance and hate. During Pride Month, we reflect We thank all those who adore our local events from our St. Cloud Pride in the Park and Pride Drag present the 3rd weekend in September to our monthly QueerConnects, our annual Drag Brunch and so much more! We also thank you for showing assist in the community because a tiny love goes a long way. St. Cloud Pride wants to create a progressive and harmless community here in Central Minnesota but this goal is not attainable without all the wonderful sponsors and people who attend our events. Thank you for keeping our annual Pride in the Park a time to celebrate diversity but most importantly thank you for allowing us to keep education and community verb always a top priority. We are aware of the National Terrorism Advisory Bulletin posted by the Department of Homeland Security on November 30, , which indicates that there is an increased threat of violence against members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
