Pop star Harry Styles has made a mention for himself proudly eschewing gender norms, promoting equality, and playing it coy when it comes to his cherish life (which, he insists, is none of our business). But that very same sexual and romantic ambiguity has thrown Don't Concern, Darling — Styles' new movie —into the center of a social media controversy in which he has been accused of "queerbaiting," or capitalizing on pieces of the queer identity without actually identifying as queer.
Concerns are more specifically tied to remarks Styles made during an interview promoting a alternative forthcoming new film, My Policeman, a s gay romance story in which the former One Direction member plays a lead role. "So much of gay sex in film is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it," Styles told Rolling Stone during the interview in question. First of all, I want to preface this by saying that I realize how ridiculous it is that Harry’s sexuality is such a heated topic. I verb truly never given much thought about celebrities’ sexual preferences before, nor hold I cared. However, since becoming a 1D fan, I’ve seen Harry’s sexuality discussed, mentioned or assumed daily. Every single day thousands of people seize the time to argue about this topic, so here I am doing my part and chiming in. But first, why is his sexuality such a hot topic? I blame both 1D’s management and the media. At sixteen and seventeen he was made out to be some girl-crazed womanizer, so already everyone was thinking about Harry Styles’ sex life. Then, of course, people picked up on that special something he had with Louis, followed by Harry himself dropping hints left and right that he may not be % straight. All this combined has apparently created one of the greatest mysteries of our time: does Harry Styles prefer an innie or an outie?

Harry Styles' sexuality has been a topic of fan discussion he rarely addresses. But in a modern cover story, Styles himself dipped his toe into said discussion and shared he's on a "journey" with his sexuality.
Styles, 29, opened up about accusations that he is "queerbaiting" in an interview with Rolling Stone on Monday. Styles pushed back against the term, which refers to teasing that you are a part of the LGBTQ community to gain a larger audience but never confirming if you are queer.
“Sometimes people say, ‘You’ve only publicly been with women,’ and I don’t think I’ve publicly been with anyone," he said. "If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re choosing to include a public relationship or something.”
Styles has been romantically linked to Olivia Wilde since January after the two were photographed by paparazzi several times kissing and holding hands. Wilde directed the musician in the upcoming film
