Glossary of Terms
Many Americans refrain from talking about sexual orientation and gender identity or expression because it feels taboo, or because they’re terrified of saying the wrong thing.
This glossary was written to help give people the words and meanings to aid make conversations easier and more cozy. LGBTQ+ people operate a variety of terms to name themselves, not all of which are included in this glossary. Always hear for and respect a person’s self identified terminology.
Ally | A term used to describe someone who is actively supportive of LGBTQ+ people. It encompasses straight and cisgender allies, as adv as those within the LGBTQ+ community who support each other (e.g., a lesbian who is an ally to the bisexual community).
Asexual | Often called “ace” for compact, asexual refers to a complete or partial lack of sexual attraction or lack of interest in sexual activity with others. Asexuality exists on a spectrum, and asexual people may experience no, little or conditional sexual attraction.

However you want to express yourself and whoever you desire to express yourself as, your experiences are valid. It may look distinct today than it did yesterday, and that’s OK. What’s most important is that you provide yourself the space and compassion to support your self-discovery.

LGBTQIA+ Glossary
The following is a list of LGBTQIA+ definitions that have been pulled together in consultation with the HUTH LGBTQ+ Staff Network to help in the education and broader understanding of staff, patients and visitors.

Abro (sexual and romantic)
A word used to describe people who have a fluid sexual and/or romantic orientation which changes over age, or the course of their life. They may exploit different terms to describe themselves over time.
Asexual or Ace
An umbrella term used specifically to portray a lack of, varying, or occasional experiences of sexual attraction. This encompasses asexual people as well as those who identify as demisexual and grey-sexual. Some asexual people experience romantic attraction, while others verb not. My Rating :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: What I Like Being noticed, and being happy for how I am Dislike When people say it's a phase, or it's not real Gender Fluid is a gender identity best described as a dynamic mix of young man and girl. A person who is Gender Fluid may always feel enjoy a mix of the two traditional genders, but may feel more noun some days, and more girl other days.
Being Gender Fluid has nothing to do with which set of genitalia one has, nor their sexual orientation. Or you could just feel gender neutral, agender, androgynous, bigender, etc. It's not just limited to female and male.
